I sat down this weekend and made a plan for the units we will share this school year.
For those who really know me, you know I just 'wing it' from week to week, so having a plan is amazing. If I stick to it, it will be a miracle!!! But hey, even if I only get half of it done, I'll still be doing great!
For the most part, I took the girls' Zoology schedule from co-op and choose units to go along with it. I didn't pick as many FIAR titles as I thought I would--we've already rowed many of the titles that would go along with the themes. We'll be re-rowing a couple FIAR titles. I mostly choose HSS units because we haven't done them before, with the exception of When Agnes Caws, Sophie's Masterpiece, and Crawdad Creek--all favorites around here!

ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteI don;t recall how old your kids are, but judging by your other books you are studying I thought you could use these for your metamorphosis study:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
A New Butterfly : My First Look at Metamorphosis by Pamela Hickman
Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert
Gotta Go! Gotta Go! by Sam Swope, pictures by Sue Riddle, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, New York, NY 2000
A creepy-crawly bug doesn't know why but is certain that she must go to Mexico. This is an easy to read story based on the life cycle of a monarch butterfly.
From Caterpillar to Butterfly by Deborah Heiligman
Where Butterflies Grow by Joanne Ryder, pictures by Lynne Cherry, Lodestar Books, Dutton, New York, NY 1989
This book invites you to imagine what is is like to change from a caterpillar into a black swallowtail butterfly. It also has practical tips on how to choose garden plants to attract butterflies.
Have fun!!!
Have you recently rowed The Salamander Room? That would be a good one. :) I don't think I saw it anywhere on your list...forgive me if I did!
